BETHPAGE

Hole 1 – Approach shot to back pin plays a little long. Either double elevation or add 2 yard to approach shot. Below pin is the easier putt, but not a hard green.

Hole 2 – Driver full back spin will go through the tree. Punch driver also works on this hole. Approach shot into all pin locations will roll out towards pin. Headwind is true to the number. Tailwind add a bit more back spin to stop the roll. Approach shot with 56 or 60 add 2 clicks backspin, if punching those wedges use 3 clicks

Hole 3 – Don’t be right of front pin

Hole 4 – Almost impossible to stop approach shot on the green. Shot plays a little longer in a headwind. Safe route is to lay up to the right for an easy punch for birdie. Can also punch/pitch from behind the green if you go for it.

Hole 5 – Pretty straight forward hole. Back center pin +3yds.

Hole 6 – Camera angle 3 is pretty helpful when lining up the drive. Can easily clear the hill and roll out. Cross winds don’t affect drive that much. Approach is to the number.

Hole 7 – Pretty hard birdie hole. Right pin tucked behind bunker approach shot you don’t want to be short. It will kick and run even further. Back pin plays differently. In a headwind, add 2 to 3 yards. In a tailwind, subtract 2 to 3 yards and allow for roll out towards pin.

Hole 8 – Pretty straight forward. Below the pins is an uphill putt.

Hole 9 – Tailwind can easily cut the corner and clear the bunkers. On approach, you can use putt view to accurately tell wind as the cameras are terrible on this hole. Approach plays a yard or so longer depending on if you’re a FBS player or not.

CHAMBERS BAY

1 Front Pin: Green slopes heavily front to back. With a tailwind try -1.5 to -2% from your normal shot. With a headwind maybe -.5 to -1%.

Back Pin: if reachable with a 3w (most likely a tailwind, try -2%.

2 Front/Right Pin: when using a wedge w/ HW try adding 1-2 yds.

3 Back Center: try -2 to -3yds with TW

CONGRESSIONAL

ERIN HILLS

Unless otherwise stated, all shots are based on full back spin

3: add 3 yards to distance and Don’t be right of pin!

4: tough pin. I prefer to be short over long so I always take a touch off, AND DON’T BE LEFT OF PIN!!!

5: Tailwind I add 2yds, Headwind I add 4yds.

6: Best to be right of pin for uphill putt.

10: 3W likes to roll out and you don’t want to be above the cup. Try taking off 2 – 3 yds.

KIAWA

So Kiawah for me is an approach shot management course, meaning my thoughts go to where to leave approaches given how crazy the greens can be. So I think about where my misses are to leave easy (or relatively easy) 10-15 ft putts and cheat my aims/mis-dings that way as much as I can. With that in mind, and with a couple gaps on holes where I don’t remember the shot well without actually looking at it, here are my thoughts on where to leave shots into each hole:

Hole 1: Back pin is awful, no good answer to the approach though I tend to have a bit more success missing left than right. Front pin is fairly simple, though right is straighter than left

Hole 2: Again back pin is rough on this hole. Pin in the center of the green (the more common one) a miss short and a bit right leaves a relatively straight putt. Hole high and beyond brings lots of slopes into play

Hole 3: For the left pin missing long is better than short. There’s a mound about 5 ft short of this pin that is rough to putt over. The right/back pin is better, with the miss being a few feet short right. For the back right pin I try to take my drive down the right side of the fairway so my approach line mirrors my preferred putt line.

Hole 4: It’s a theme, back pins are usually awful at Kiawah. If you know the optimal miss to this one just let me know. The typical pin is in the middle just over the bunker. That hole location seems to be on top of a tiny hill & breaks sharply away at the end from basically any angle. I prefer the short right miss to the others, though each gets tricky because of that break the last 2 feet.

Hole 5: Usual pin is middle, miss is long and maybe just a hair right. Here the back (228 yd) pin is actually the easier of the two, and I like to err short right of it when it comes up.

OAKMONT

OLYMPIC

Hole 1 – Stay below the hole. Bottom right.

Hole 2 – Pin high – left

Hole 3 – Long directly behind pin. A few feet each direction is okay.

Hole 4 – Stay short and right

Hole 5 – Punch driver here or slice. Short to pin high left

Hole 6 – Pin high left a little long is ok but stay left

Hole 7 – 7 is the easiest green to putt on. Anywhere on top shelf is makeable.

Hole 8 – Short and left is ideal. Staying left leaves uphill

Hole 9 – Hole plays +/- 3yrds long. Left. Pin high left and a little short left is good
